SCOPE
OF THE REPORT Project ESS Update 40 consists of two volumes, each of which
stands as an independent report, but with key relationships between them. The
common thread is that of PSTN switching. Volume One of this report focuses
upon Next Generation switching systems for public networks. Volume Two provides
a detailed analysis of worldwide digital switching system status by manufacturer,
country and operator. This constitutes the most comprehensive database on digital
switching technology deployment available anywhere in the world. This report
provides executives of both telecom service providers and telecom equipment vendors
with guidance useful for budgetary planning, technology selection, equipment selection,
and precautions to be taken in planning the implementation of new technology products
in the field of Next Generation convergent multi-service switching systems. It
provides the following major categories of information and guidance: - Next
Generation technology trend analysis and capability forecasts
