SCOPE
The scope of Project ESS Update 38 is that of ATM switching,
and the impact that IP and IP switching will have on the implementation of ATM
in public networks. This study is specifically directed at all types of public
telecom service providers and their primary infrastructure suppliers.
Our
original objective was to strictly cover ATM switching. However, we found that
there is currently so much turmoil revolving around the convergence of traditional
telephony and IP-based networks (Internet and Intranets) that we felt it necessary
to include what is currently happening in the IP arena, and its relation to ATM.
However, we have not included the complete range of IP switching / routing equipment
now available in the marketplace.
The following is a brief description of
the report in overview form. It contains two major sections that are divided into
two volumes. This section details how the study is organized. | |
