Carrier-Grade Next Generation Packet Exchange Pricing Toll
Tandem Pricing Much More Attractive than
Local
Dittberner Associates, Inc.
released cost forecasts which indicate
that only moderate premiums must be paid
for Next Generation local multi-service
packet exchanges.
Dittberner reports its cost-based
price forecasts for fully carrier-grade
systems:
- Local packet exchanges
at between $ 135 and $ 140 per line
port in early 2000 for purely analog
(POTS) configurations. This cost will
decrease to between $ 120 and $ 125
by 2007.
- A local packet exchange
with 25% ISDN lines and another 25%
of the lines equipped for ADSL will
cost around $ 210 per line port, decreasing
to between $ 160 and $165 per port in
2007.
The study reports that Tandem
Packet Exchanges are more cost-effective
than TDM versions.
- The initial price may
be significantly less (30-50%) than
current world prices for TDM tandem
exchanges
- A packet tandem exchange
with 10,000 equivalent DS-O PSTN ports
and 10,000 equivalent DS-O packet ports
with cost around $ 100 per port in early
2000. It will
decrease to around $ 85 per port by
2007.
The Dittberner cost forecasts
for ATM and IP-based exchanges are almost
identical, the report states, when the
same assumptions regarding capacity and
functionality are applied.
